German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. 
If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. Deeno is a very sweet young boy who found himself in trouble when he landed, with a fractured hip, in an overfull high-kill shelter in California. We were able to pull him out before it was too late, in partnership with our friends from Miracle GSD Network. Deeno has had surgery to repair his hip and is now fully recovered. He is a regular, active GSD pup, who loves to run and play :)
Deeno is a kind, gentle, playful pup. At 53 lbs, he is super cute and smaller for a GSD. He walks well on a leash, he already knows 'sit', 'shake', 'down', 'stay', 'kennel up', 'easy' and 'leave it', WHEN he feels like listening, because he is still all puppy, and all he really wants to do it play! But he is a good boy. His foster mom tells us that 'He is so handsome and makes the cutest expressions as he tilts his head to listen and interact'.  He gets along great with big and small dogs. He is a gentleman with new people, and he is fabulous with little kids. He likes to snuggle as close as possible with his humans. He is crate-trained and potty-trained. He is not a huge barker but will give a big hello when someone comes in the door. Deeno will try to chase and herd kitties. Like a true puppy he needs good supervision and direction, but he loves to please. He rides well in the car, and he is as an all-around awesome pup, who will be the delight of an active, GSD-loving owner.  Deeno is a typical GSD youngster: lovable, fun, super smart, very active. He will excel with active adopters who are able to provide daily walks in addition to backyard playtime, outings for socialization, and the usual training that GSD youngsters require. Because of that, Deeno's ideal owner will have some prior GSD experience.
Like all German Shepherd youngsters, he will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. 
Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.
